Within the traditions preserved by Te WHARE ATUA Ō IO TIKITIKIŌRANGI and TE WHARE Ō KUPE-ARIKI, there are many manifestations and sacred names through which the Supreme Being, IO, is recognised throughout Aotearoa, Te Moana Nui a Hiva, and Te Whenua Honu.
These names reflect regional traditions and sacred lineages while acknowledging one Supreme Source.
In TE WHENUA HONU (the Americas), one manifestation of IO is recognised as IOWA.
At Opoa, Ra'iātea, IO is remembered through names including IO RETEA, IO TE RANGITŪĀTINITINI O TE RANGI MĀRUARUA, and TA'AROA NUI TAHI TUMU.
At Wawau-ātea (Bora Bora), another manifestation is known as TUMU NUI or TUMU ITI.
In Tahiti Nui Mare'are'a, IO is commonly known as TA'AROA
In Hawaiʻi, the name IOLANI preserves another manifestation associated with IO.
In Nuku Hiva, the name IO TETE is retained.
Within Aotearoa, further sacred names continue through different tribal traditions.
At Kaikohe, IO is remembered as IO PŪTAHI
Within some Ngāpuhi traditions, IO is known as IOTAHI.
Within Hokianga, one of the sacred names preserved is IORANGI according to Te Wānanga.
In public traditions and ceremonial settings, alternative public identities of IO include Rehua, Uenuku, Tumu, Tangaroa, and Te Whatu have also been used.
Within these traditions, such names function as sacred personifications through which aspects of IO are acknowledged and remembered.
According to these traditions, the highest and most sacred names of IO were never spoken openly by the uninitiated.
Their recitation belonged only to the most senior Tohunga of the Whare Wānanga, who carried the responsibility of preserving and transmitting this sacred knowledge according to established protocols.
During the months of March, April, May, and June 2026, I undertook four months of Noho Puku (fasting) and Ruruku (intimate prayer).
The purpose of this period was to seek clarity regarding the nature of IO and to discern whether IO was truly the Supreme Source within Te Ao Māori.
Throughout this period I repeatedly offered the following Ruruku (intimate and personal prayer):
"E IO, E Rangi, if you are the one true Multi-Dimensional IO-Consciousness, reveal this to me clearly without confusion. Allow me to know through direct experience, understanding, wisdom, insight, and confirmation."
"Remove all doubt, deception, misunderstanding, and illusion. Help me discern truth from error and walk according to what is true according to IO. Let clarity come in its proper time and in the manner that is right."
According to my own lived experience, on 28 June 2026, 4am shortly after Matariki, I experienced what I understood to be a visitation from IO.
Through that experience, I came to the conviction that IO is the Supreme Source within Te Ao Māori.
From that experience, I understand that IO is not adopted from another culture, religion, or faith tradition.
Rather, IO is the original Supreme Source within Te Ao Māori. I further understand IO to be a source of light, unconditional love, humility, service, wisdom, and creation, and not a source of darkness or demonic influence. That the true source of IO is clean.
Within the traditions preserved by TE WHARE ATUA Ō IO TIKITIKIŌRANGI and Te WHARE Ō KUPE-ARIKI IO is understood as one of the highest sacred manifestations of the Supreme Source, preserved within Hokianga, and carried forward as part of the continuing renaissance of the IO Priesthood in Aotearoa, Te Ika ā Māui and Te Moana Nui a Hiva today.
